“The great wall of Vagad”: This work continued my study of rural and urban spaces and behaviors. I have had many encounters with people of different classes there, we have conversed about the kind of changes they have witnessed in their lives. These dialogues augmented the geographical history of Partapur and its location in the Vagad region, which is a tribal belt in the Southern part of Rajasthan. The name Vagad means ‘boundary’ and one can see the huge plantations of cactus done in the form of a secured boundary for the farms.
These conversations also led me to observe the transition of the architecture especially of houses. The beautiful stonewall houses mostly have been replaced by concrete ones, for security reasons.
And thus the project of making a wall began, using both the old and local as well the new and urban style of construction.
